“When post-work imagines the end of work, it typically envisions robots taking over factories, farms, warehouses, and offices. Jobs in hospitals, care homes, or nurseries tend to not be taken into account—let alone the work that takes place in domestic spaces.”
– Feminist scholar Helen Hester, observing that post-work society discourse favours some jobs over others. Automation rarely “extends to the everyday tasks of staying alive and helping others stay alive—which have traditionally been performed by women for low or no wages,” she continues.
