– Software artist and writer Everest Pipkin, musing on Ben Moren’s speculative photography project Reference Ecosystem: Lost 40 (2021). Moren generated imagery using a GAN trained on photographs of Lost 40, Northern Minnesota’s largest remaining old-growth white pine-red pine forest.
