Ambivalent in tone, the exhibition explores surveillance “from production to consumption, control to exclusion.” Zheng Mahler’s 3D animation The Master Algorithm (2019), for example, sardonically embodies China’s technocratic AI arms race and social credit system as Qiu Hao, a virtual figure that “mutates, grows and disappears into clouds of data.”
